- Ken Griffey, Junior, raced
- to the top of the baseball
- world in 1989 as a 19-
- year-old rookie center
- fielder for the Seattle
- Mariners. He hasnΓÇÖt looked back.
-
- Unlike most rookies, however, Ken had
- plenty of major league experience before the
- Mariners made him the first pick of the 1987
- draft. KenΓÇÖs dad, Ken Griffey, Senior (who
- calls himself "The Original Griffey"), played
- for the 1975 and 1976 World Series cham-
- pion Cincinnati Reds. So, before Ken junior
- spent his first spring training with the Mari-
- ners, he had spent many springs with his
- dad and the various major league teams
- he played for, including the Reds, New
- York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves.
